“Terminator” vs. “Charlie’s Angels” Date Set

In the wake of “Wonder Woman 1984” being delayed seven months, the superhero sequel’s old release date slot has suddenly become the site of a game of chicken between two major event films.

Last night Sony Pictures quickly slotted in its “Charlie’s Angels” reboot for that now clear November 1st 2019 release date. Today, Paramount and Skydance Media have moved up the James Cameron-produced “Terminator” refresh by two weeks to that November 1st date.

Both films are action heavy, have mostly women in the lead roles, and both franchises have previously had films directed by McG. However “Terminator” is expected to be R-rated and skew towards older men while ‘Angels’ is a likely PG-13 rated young female-focused feature.

Both are also important titles to their respective studios, both of which are in need of big tentpole hits. Will one blink?

“Critters,” “Klowns,” “Comet” Remakes Coming

Syfy is reportedly in talks for the remake rights to the Chido Brothers’ two 1980s cult sci-fi/horror/comedy classics – “Critters” and “Killer Klowns from Outer Space” reports Bloody Disgusting. The plan is to reportedly make new films based on the properties.

The original “Critters” followed what happens when strange fuzzy malevolent little fur balls from outer space crash land on the farm of a family who must fend them off. “Killer Klowns from Outer Space’ follows teens who discover a pack of murderous aliens who look very much like circus clowns. Both films were notable for their practical creature effects and dark comedy.

That’s not the only remake coming though as Deadline reports that Orion Pictures has set Roxanne Benjamin (“Southbound,” “Body At Brighton Rock”) to pen a reimagining of Thom Eberhardt’s 1984 cult film “Night Of The Comet”. The story followed two sisters facing off against cannibal zombies after a comet wipes out most of life on Earth, with the new take emphasising the horror/sci-fi elements and winding back the comedy elements.

Vallee To Direct John & Yoko Movie

Jean-Marc Vallee (“Dallas Buyers Club,” “Big Little Lies”) is set to direct a new biopic about legendary Beatles frontman John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono in the works at Universal Pictures and Immersive Pictures.

Vallee was previously atop the shortlist for the next James Bond film, but he took himself out of the running to do this film instead. He will direct, edit and do a script polish.

Anthony McCarten (“Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Darkest Hour,” “The Theory of Everything”) will pen the script while Yoko Ono herself will produce along with McCarten, Valle, Michael De Luca, Josh Bratman and Nathan Ross. There’s no release date set as yet.

Ross says in a statement: “We are all huge Beatles fans, and this is a dream come true. There were inner and outer struggles John had, and family turmoil as a child, and things she had to endure before John’s tragic death. The thing we loved about the script was its stark honesty. You see so many biopic scripts where you can see that the cooperation of the subject’s family had something to do with the editorial, and that wasn’t the case here.”
